State Surplus Auctions
Texas DPS Police Vehicle Auction in Austin, November 13, 2026: 16 Retired Explorers Starting at $100 and 23 Tahoes Starting at $102.50. On October 30, a 2019 Explorer Sold for $2,101 and 2020 Tahoes Sold for $5,150 to $5,552.
A retired Texas state police Explorer for $100 is the kind of deal buyers wait all year for, and right now there are 16 of them on the block in Austin. Twelve of the Explorers have current bids of $153.50 or less, and 11 of the 23 DPS Tahoes in the same auction are under $600. The state's October 30 auction showed what these trucks are worth: a 2019 Explorer sold for $2,101, and 2020 Tahoes sold for $5,150 to $5,552. The sale closes Friday, November 13, at 2 p.m. Austin time.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Texas Department of Public Safety has rotated another group of patrol units out of service, and they are lined up on the Texas Facilities Commission lot at 6506 Bolm Road in east Austin. The auction has 16 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor Utility SUVs and 23 Chevrolet Tahoe police SUVs, and most have only one to three bids so far. Two Explorers are at $100, seven are at $102.50, and three are at $152.50 to $153.50. The lowest-priced Tahoes, a 2019 and a 2020, are at $102.50 each.
The state's October 30 auction gives buyers a good measure of value. On GovDeals, under the name State of Texas Surplus, the state sold the same models from the same Austin lot. A 2019 Explorer brought $2,101, two 2020 Tahoes brought $5,552 and $5,150, and a 2019 Tahoe sold for $5,150.

The Explorers: 16 state police SUVs starting at $100
All 16 are Ford Police Interceptor Utility models with the 3.5-liter V6 and all-wheel drive. Ford built this model to replace the Crown Victoria, and police departments across the country still run it. Ten are 2019s, two are 2018s and four are 2017s. They show 149,203 to 175,583 miles, and the middle bid in the group is $102.50.
Lot 144 has the lowest miles: a 2019 with 149,203 miles at $102.50. Its notes list a dead battery, front bumper damage and missing windshield trim. Lot 104, a 2018 with 149,936 miles, is at $100 with an air conditioner that needs work. Lot 145, a 2017 with 150,450 miles, is at $102.50; its notes say it needs gas and the check engine light is on. Lot 106, a 2019 with 159,292 miles, is at $102.50 with a driver's window that needs repair. Lot 127, a 2019 with 170,277 miles, is at $102.50 with one cloudy headlight.
Buyers are already picking favorites. Lot 116, a 2019 with 150,732 miles, is at $415, and lot 134, another 2019, is at $504. Lot 143, a 2019 with 159,500 miles, is at $1,036. Lot 119, a 2019 with 167,218 miles, leads the Explorers at $1,136.

The Tahoes: 23 state police SUVs starting at $102.50
The Tahoe is a familiar sight on Texas highways, and this auction has 23 of them. All are two-wheel-drive Police Pursuit Vehicles with the 5.3-liter V8: fifteen 2020s, four 2019s, two 2017s, a 2016 and a 2015. They show 116,324 to 196,333 miles, and the middle bid is $1,000.86.
Eleven of them are under $600. Lot 126, a 2019 with 169,223 miles, and lot 128, a 2020 K9 unit with 162,986 miles, are both at $102.50. Lot 136, a 2019 with 164,230 miles, is at $105, and lot 124, a 2020 with 172,876 miles, is at $107.50. Lot 140, a 2017 with 152,623 miles, is at $202.50, and lot 99, a 2017 with 143,772 miles, is at $320. Four more 2020s, lots 129, 108, 125 and 122, are at $350, $415, $510 and $577.

Several Tahoes are drawing strong interest. Lot 133, a 2020 with 162,460 miles, has 18 bids and is at $1,525. Lot 101, a 2020 with 165,022 miles, has 15 bids at $787.52. Three 2020s are at $3,050, and the top police Tahoe is lot 142, a 2020 with 127,282 miles, at $5,100. The 2015 in lot 141, with 116,324 miles, is at $2,025; the State Surplus Store listed the same truck at $4,600.

What DPS Explorers and Tahoes sell for in Texas

Kaufman County sold five 2019 Explorer police units on October 23 for $3,050, $3,200, $3,656, $3,889 and $4,150. How we know they're DPS
The Texas Facilities Commission handles the state's surplus, so its name is on the listings, but these SUVs are DPS patrol units. Every one wears the black-and-white paint with a red X sprayed on the hood, and the notes list the antenna holes and trim left when the patrol equipment was removed. The 2015 Tahoe in lot 141 was on the State Surplus Store's list under a property number beginning with 405, the Texas Comptroller's agency number for the Department of Public Safety.
How to bid and pick up in Austin
The November 13 lots close at 1 p.m. Mountain time, which is 2 p.m. in Austin and 3 p.m. Eastern, and a late bid can extend a lot's closing time. Bidding is online at Public Surplus with a free account, and the site can bid for you up to the maximum you set. A 6% buyer's premium is added to the winning bid. Payment goes through PayMac by credit card or wire transfer and is due within five business days of the award, and cash, checks and money orders are not accepted.
Every vehicle is sold as is, where is, and the state does not stand behind the year, mileage, condition or title details in the listing. That makes the Austin preview day worth the trip: Thursday, November 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 6506 Bolm Road, with no appointment needed. Pickup runs Monday, November 16, through Tuesday, November 24, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A vehicle left past the deadline goes back to the state, and the buyer loses the money paid. The state does not load or ship, so bring a trailer or a driver.
Bring your paid receipt and a photo ID. If someone else is picking up for you, email auctions@tfc.texas.gov ahead of time from your Public Surplus address and name that person. The title is issued in the exact name on your Public Surplus profile, and a change to a business name has to be made through Public Surplus chat before the auction closes. The Austin preview and pickup contacts are 512-463-4551 and 512-463-1500.
